The uMngeni SPCA pride ourselves on being a very proactive & highly motivated branch of the SPCA. We have been tackling the problems of neglect, abuse and cruelty to animals in the greater Howick Districts since its formation in 1968.
Our area of jurisdiction falls within the uMngeni Municipal boundaries (with the exception of Otto's Bluff which comes under the Pietermaritzburg SPCA and Nottingham Road which falls under Mooi River SPCA). Our area therefore includes Howick, Hilton, Cedara, Mpophomeni, Haza, Impendle, Dargle, Lidgetton, Balgowan, Karkloof and everything in between.
We compromise of various departments that make up our Society as a whole. Retail is responsible for our retail division (i.e. our shop outlets that sell new and used goods, dog and cat food, bird seed, and other animal related toys). They also sell plants and books and have a sewing team that makes beautiful goods to sell in our shops with material donated.
The Operational department is responsible for everything that happens at our Kennels – adoption and care of animals, a consulting vet, the outreach programme and the general running of this very busy, important part of the SPCA.
We also have an Events and Fundraising committee that are dedicated to arranging events to raise much needed funds and to create public awareness of our worthy cause. We have a Bequest Society that is a vital part of the SPCA too. We are indebted to Bequesters, Volunteers and Supporters alike, to help keep our SPCA a particularly well organised, professionally run branch.
The uMngeni SPCA is dedicated, committed and professional in ensuring the welfare of all animals in our communities through education, example and prosecution when necessary.
