The children from Heritage House Preschool had the time of their lives recently, when they visited The Botanical Gardens, in Pietermaritzburg, for the Happy Earth Festival.
They had fun visiting the library stand where they enjoyed time listening to a story and then coloured in a picture of happy earth. After that, they picnicked in the beautiful gardens before going to the Wessa tent where they played fun games and burnt-off some energy, whilst pretending to be lions, monkeys and trees! This was followed by an exciting nature walk where they found creepy crawly insects, colourful leaves and watched a dragonfly hovering above the stream, which flowed blissfully under the bridge. The children then couldn’t resist time to romp in the gathered autumn leaves, which for them, was the highlight of the day. Someone even managed to temporarily lose their shoes beneath the crunchy leaves!
Good exercise followed when they had fun jumping from log to log and then it was time to meet the friendly urban 'rhino' who was asked by one of the children "Why are you speaking English if you're a rhino?" The rhino replied "That's because I'm an urban rhino." The children learnt that Black and White Rhinos are endangered. The busy day ended with time to quietly feed the fish in the tranquil pond.
All the weary explorers were then safely transported home, most of whom peacefully nodded off to sleep on the way.
