This past weekend saw one of the highlights of our winter season - the home derby against Pretoria Boys' High School. It was a full weekend of winter sport. From tennis, golf and squash, to hockey and rugby, Michaelhouse played thirty-seven matches, winning twenty-three, drawing five, and losing nine - a phenomenal record against one of South Africa’s great schools.
For setting the tone for the weekend and playing some superb hockey on Friday, our Head of Sport’s team of the week was chosen as the 3rd XI Hockey team.
Delving into the results, our 1st and 2nd golf teams took on PBHS at Gowrie on Friday, with our 2nd team winning 4-2 and 1st team winning 5-1.
Our hockey teams played thirteen, won seven, drew two and lost four with the 4th to 1st team results as follows:
4th XI Won 3 – 2
3rd XI Won 6 – 1
2nd XI Won 3 – 2
1st XI Drew 0 – 0
In rugby, we played twenty one, won thirteen, drew 3 and lost five, with the 8th XV to the 1st XV results as follows:
8th XV Won 19 – 12
7th XV Won 59 – 0
6th XV Won 59 – 21
5th XV Won 38 – 0
4th XV Won 61 – 0
3rd XV Won 49 – 14
2nd XV Won 43 – 12
1st XV Won 53 – 17
In squash, it was a narrow but deserved win for our Senior Club, edging Pretoria Boys' High 7-5 in a tightly contested rubber. And in tennis, Michaelhouse played Pretoria Boys' High Top 6 in a close singles and doubles fixture. The overall match went down to the final doubles, with Michaelhouse securing a 5-4 win.
It was wonderful to have many of our Old Boys and supporters cheering our boys on, on home ground.
Well done to all teams.
